Q: Does the clean diamond finish clear coat come in a matte or satin finish?

A: At this time, the DiamondFinish Clear comes in a Gloss Finish. However, you can lightly sand the DiamondFinish Clear with steel wool after 24 hours to knock down the sheen.

Q: Can diamond finish clear be used over rust seal? I'm looking to use rust seal as a color base coat on some automotive components (steering rack, transmission, differential...etc) and use clear to provide the UV protective layer/topcoat

Asked by:  - 10/28/2013

A: We do not recommend putting DiamondFinish Clear over RustSeal because although DiamondFinish Clear is absolutely UV stable, DiamondFinish Clear does not block the UV rays from getting through to the RustSeal. Over an extended period of time, DiamondFinish Clear can delaminate from RustSeal when exposed to prolonged sunlight.

We always recommend a solid color UV stable top coat paint (such as BlackTop or KBS Maxx) over RustSeal if RustSeal will be exposed to sunlight.

Rating DiamondFinish is AWESOME!

I applied the diamondfinish to my deck as a clear coat and it went on beautifully. I cut it about 10% with the #1 Thinner. The brush marks disappeared and I was left with an AWESOME glossy finish that seems very durable.

Rating I'm impressed with the Finish!

First of all, I have never painted a car, boat, or anything like that. I am a welder, machinist, and I do paint things that I fabricate, but I am not a professional painter. I learn as I go. I bought a project boat this winter, I decided to go ahead and refinish from the rub rail up. The gel coat was in bad shape, and once I started sanding I decided I needed to take it all the way down to the base. I had never heard of KBS when I started researching what type of paint I wanted to use, but after watching a couple videos and seeing the great flexibility this paint provided, I thought I would give it a try. I sprayed three coats of rust seal, and three coats of satin black top coat chasis paint for the base. The boat had small stress cracks in the fiberglass and after these six coats most of the cracks were covered over. I bought .025 Cobalt Blue metal flake and applied it with the Diamond Clear. After applying the last coat of metal flake, I sprayed three more coats of the diamond clear. I waited a few days then I wet sanded with 1500 and 2000 grit sandpaper. After that I buffed it and waxed it. I'm very impressed with the finish. The clear seems extremely durable, and I would recommend this product. The con I found with the paint is don't get it on your skin you will have to wear it off! Wear Gloves! I'll try an attach some images. Hope this information helps.

Rating Brass Handrails

I used DiamondFinish Clear Coat on lots of brass handrails. The brass was very old. I polished it and clear coated it. I just used a paint brush, but wish I tried a foam brush. The results were satisfactory. I got a nice smooth finish. I still need to apply a second coat, hope to get around to it. Hopefully this will keep the brass from needing polishing.
