PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

RustSeal is a single-component, ready-to-use, high-solid content, moisture-curing urethane with exceptional adhesion properties. RustSeal is specifically formulated to encapsulate and seal porous surfaces like rusted metal, wood or even concrete. Concrete is an alkali material readily susceptible to moisture & chemicals because it is very porous. These agents readily penetrate its surface resulting in premature erosion & failure.

RustSeal is an inexpensive and simple solution for protecting and sealing concrete permanently. Unlike other high-performance concrete coatings, RustSeal is a single-component product with no mixing ratios involved. Simply stir and use. There is no special equipment needed.

When first applied, RustSeal’s thin viscosity wets and penetrates the surface and, as it combines with atmospheric moisture, the curing process of resins begins. This unique curing mechanism allows RustSeal to expand and interlock within the pores of the concrete enabling it to become part of the surface. This extremely tough yet flexible coating then seals the surface, blocks all pores and prevents all access to moisture. RustSeal is also highly resistant to mechanical abrasion and impact and to most aggressive chemicals, including most acids, alkalis, salts, abrasive materials, coal dust, solvents, oils, and other refined petroleum products.

Once concrete is sealed with RustSeal, its finished surface will become extremely tough, durable & chemically resistant allowing for easy clean up with little or no maintenance. And if required, RustSeal can be topcoated with any paint system of your choice.

IMPORTANCE OF SURFACE PREPARATION:

To achieve expert results, please take the time to carefully read and understand the following directions before you begin your project. These directions are meant to be general guidelines only and do not cover every application or environmental situation. If you have remaining questions or concerns, please call us toll-free for technical assistance.

ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTIVE GLOVES AND SAFETY GLASSES. Always work in a well-ventilated area and wear protective gloves to avoid skin contact & temporary staining.

Apply RustSeal to clean seasoned concrete floors in indoor garages or industrial areas. Do not apply to new concrete for at least 60 days until it is fully cured. Recommended floor temp application range is 55-82°F (13-28°C) degrees. RustSeal is a moisture-cured urethane. For best end results, use only in moderate to dry atmospheric conditions. AVOID applying RustSeal in extreme humid conditions. Any unwanted RustSeal must be cleaned up before it dries as it cannot be removed by any solvent once cured. The key to any long term coating performance is good prep work. For best end results, follow the 3-step system:

STEP #1 - CLEAN:

Sweep or use a shop vac to remove any loose debris & contamination. Scrape off any stuck on debris with a scraper or shovel. Wash the surface with KBS Klean, a water-based cleaner / degreaser. Use a dilution rate most effective for the degree of contamination. Use a bristle brush or electric floor scrubber to help remove any dirt, grease or oil stains from the pores of the concrete. Repeat if necessary. Oil & grease stains are gone when water no longer beads up on the surface. Rinse thoroughly & let dry. If desired, fill any cracks or pits as directed with NuMetal Epoxy Putty or similar filler.

STEP #2 - PREP & ETCH:

Apply an acid wash (muriatic acid) or refinish the concrete (concrete grinding) to remove a thin layer of the surface for the highest level of adhesion & bonding. Rinse well & let dry completely. Use a fan or dehumidifier to help facilitate drying. To test for residual moisture in the concrete, securely seal a 2-3 foot area of concrete with plastic wrap & tape. Leave overnight. If no condensation forms on the plastic wrap, the concrete is dry and ready for sealing.

STEP #3 - SEAL:

Do Not Shake RustSeal Can. Stir contents thoroughly for at least 3-5 minutes. Apply two medium coats of RustSeal by roller to dry concrete. Always apply the second coat within 24 hours of the first. Under normal atmospheric conditions, let cure for 48 hours before resuming full traffic. NOTE: Please read & follow full RustSeal application instructions for all precautions & warnings. For future maintenance, if coating becomes damaged, simply clean, scuff & recoat the spot.

CLEAN UP:

KBS #1 Thinner is ideal for clean up. IMPORTANT: RustSeal must be cleaned up before it dries. It cannot be removed by any solvent once cured. Remember to always wear protective gloves to avoid skin contact and temporary staining. If skin contact accidentally occurs, immediately remove with KBS #1 Thinner followed by soap and water.
