Questions and Answers

Q: I have a truck frame that still has a lot of factory paint still on it that I know won't last very long. Do I need to strip all the paint off first or and can I go over it with the self etching primer and then coat it with rust seal?

Asked by:  - 3/8/2014

A: It would be best to strip off the old coating, but it is not necessary. The best rust protection is always achieved by applying RustSeal to properly prepped metal. But, if you have do not want to strip off the old coating, you can clean the old coating with KBS Klean and scuff it up with 300 grit and then apply RustSeal.

Rating Great adhesion

I built a welding table this year and top coated it with there product but they recommend putting this primer on first for best adhesion. I followed the direction to the t and found they were right it is a very tough strong primer well worth the price. I top coated it and have hammered on it welded on it and still no issues. thanks for the advice guys.

Rating Great product, easy to use

Definitely coats better than any self etching primer I have used in the past. It makes a job easier as you can use less coats as compared to other brands. Make sure you have good ventilation as it does have a strong odor.

Rating Fusion self etching primer

We do primarily electrostatic refinishing, using very high end Ransburg onsite elctrostatic equipment. occasionally we need to use a product that can't be shot out of our #2 handgun and we then use a Titan HVLP turbine unit. In this instance our customer had ordered 16 sliding doors for the entrance to a grocery store in bare anodized aluminum. They needed the color to be a dark bronze tone. I used your product as the primer, intermediate coat. My top coat was applied electrostatically. A 2-part acrylic. Time will tell as to adhesion. I have high hopes. So far so good

Rating Looks Tremendous

I painted a 454 block, heads, oil pan, and manifold and it looks tremendous. The blue and aluminum color went on easy and I applied it with a brush without removing the engine. The product went on easy and even, however, you have to take your time and don't rush it.
